WHY DO I HAVE TO GO TO MASS?

Encountering Jesus in the Eucharist

The purpose of this lesson is to lead students to understand the beauty and richness of the Mass and to see it as a “front row seat” in the most important event in human history. As Catholics, we are morally obligated to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

  1. Mass is not about “having fun” or being entertaining.
    - Mass is a divine appointment with the Creator of the universe, to worship and thank him for all he has done for us. We do this, not because God needs it, but because WE need to acknowledge God as our Father and our place in his family.

  2. Receiving Jesus in the Eucharist is our greatest gift...and most awesome privilege.
    - Catholics around the world have given their lives to be at Mass. What do they see that we are missing?

  3. Learn to live the Mass all week long.
    - We get the most out of Mass when we prepare for it ahead of time. This allows us to draw from the power and the presence of God given to us at the altar to “go” and be that which we receive: The Body of Christ in the world.
